Gary and I were both interviewed by Doug Dangler (from the OSU Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing) at the Ohioana Book Festival in May. They recently posted the interviews on the CSTW website.

Some of you have already subscribed, but I expect some of you didn't see my initial post about it way back when.
I'll be posting more and more stuff than I have in the past; Gary A. Braunbeck has agreed to write a weekly book/movie review for the site.
(Alternately, if you're just interested in Gary's stuff and not mine or other's articles, you can subscribe to his feed directly at
garybraunbeck. My feelers won't be hurt if you do this.)
And speaking of Gary, here's the new book trailer for his novel Coffin County:

Dorchester just posted Gary's essay "Unearthing the Mysteries Buried in Coffin County" on their site. In it, he discusses his latest novel and introduces Cedar Hill to those who may not be familiar with the fictional town that serves as the setting for most of his stories. Check it out :)
I just joined the authors at Storytellers Unplugged and posted my debut column today ... it's the first of a series of posts about book promotions. Some of it is likely stuff I've talked about here on LJ, but by no means all.
In other news, Gary will be teaching at the next Borderlands Press Boot Camp, which will be held January 23-25, 2009 in Towson, MD. The other instructors include Ginjer Buchanan, Mort Castle, Douglas Clegg, Thomas F. Monteleone, Thomas Tessier, F. Paul Wilson, and Douglas E. Winter.

Gary Braunbeck talks about Coffin County and his upcoming projects on Pod of Horror #44.
Earlier this week, we received a box of Gary's author's copies of his latest novel, Coffin County. It's already getting some pretty darn good reviews at places like Horror World. I'm particularly excited about the release of this book, since it's based on his novella Haceldama.
That novella blew me away when I first read it years ago, and I'd been pestering Gary ever since then to expand it into a novel. And he was all, "No, no, it can't be a novel," and I was all "Yes, yes, it would make a kick-ass novel" and lo, time passed and I wore him down and he wrote the dang novel. :)
*does little victory dance*

Here's Gary A. Braunbeck accepting his Stoker for his novella Afterward, There Will Be A Hallway, which can be found in Five Strokes To Midnight (which also won for best anthology).
Gary won both the Stokers he was nominated for! Whee!
Off to parties now .... :)

Gary and I will be going to the World Horror convention in Salt Lake City tomorrow; I'm not scheduled for any panels or readings but I'll be meeting with my agent on Friday and doing a novel pitch to a publisher on Saturday so it's going to be a reasonably busy convention business-wise.
Gary has been nominated for a couple of Stokers and will also be a presenter at the awards banquet Saturday night. My fingers are crossed; I hope yours are, too!
And here's an announcement regarding the Stokers, from Gary's journal:

I just wanted to remind everyone that, for the first time in its 21-year history, the Bram Stoker Award ceremony will be broadcast live on the Internet this Saturday night, March 29, starting at 11 p.m. Eastern. To make certain that your computer has the necessary audio/video programs installed, go to: http://www.iscifi.tv/live and download the Flash player for free.
Gary A. Braunbeck's story "In Cupboards and Bookshelves" will be in the new HELLBOY anthology, Oddest Jobs (edited by Christopher Golden). The book will be released in July so it coincides with the release of the new HELLBOY movie. Mike Mignola will be doing an original illustration for each story in the book.

For those of you who've read Gary's novels, the HELLBOY story takes place behind the scenes of some of the events of In Silent Graves.

I know you've all been thinking of me as being super-aware of what's going on around me (coworkers: stop laughing, I can hear you) but I only last night discovered that ChiZine posted a review of my book Sparks and Shadows. Reviewer William D. Gagliani says:
I guess he liked it, huh?
In other news, we found out this morning that Gary's going to be an author guest at The It's Alive Show! Zombie Fest in Monroeville, PA on October 27-28.
We're excited about this; this should be a really fun convention.
"Snyder's work is vibrant and resonant and superbly measured ... Short, sharp, and sometimes slightly shocking, Snyder's fiction is always memorable. ... No matter the rhetorical device used, Lucy Snyder's approach is to covertly engage and then massage a little-used muscle in the reader's psyche. Sometimes blatantly, explicitly erotic, sometimes sardonic, sometimes tinged with a great sadness, always just a bit off-kilter, and often just downright funny, the stories in Sparks and Shadows weave a spell that'll prove hard to shake. It really is a bacchanalia in there, and you just might find you don't want to turn the last page. Nicely presented as a limited from HW Press with a distinctive Deena Warner cover, this volume belongs in any serious dark fantasy collection." (read the rest)

The Context 20 staff now have the programming schedule set (at least in plaster, if not actual stone). You can find it by going to the Context website:
http://www.contextsf.org/
They've also fleshed out the page for the Sixth Annual Science and the Future Symposium.
They've tried to get all attending authors listed on the front page of the website -- if you're a published writer and you've registered but don't see your name listed, please email the web staff at contextsf@gmail.com and they will correct the omission as quickly as possible.
In other news, Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com) invited Gary Braunbeck to read a couple of his stories for this month's installment of their audio fiction program, "Dreadtime Stories". He had a lot of fun doing so, and he hopes you enjoy his readings:

Today, Gary got word from Leisure that -- in order to give readers a better overall picture of the interlinked plots in his Cedar Hill series-- his novels In Silent Graves and Keepers have gone into second printings and will hit shelves at the same time as Mr. Hands next month. This is very cool, since the 1st printings for each book were in the range of I think 36,000 copies or so. So, they've been selling pretty well.
In August of '08, his 4th Cedar Hill novel will come out ... it's entitled Coffin County and it's the prologue to the entire series of novels, short stories, and novellas. If he plays his cards right, he might even be able to convince Leisure to take a gamble on a Cedar Hill short story collection after Coffin County comes out.

Or rather, the upcoming movie based on his short story "Rami Temporales" does. :)
Gary's website just got a major redesign, courtesy of Deena Warner. Take a look and let us know what you think!

Gary just posted this to his Yahoo! Group newsletter list:
Hello, Everyone:
Maintaining my reputation for always being late to the party, I have decided to start podcasting on regular basis starting in July. An avid fan of Grave Thoughts Radio and Pod Of Horror (the two programs that have, as far as I'm concerned, written the template for such programs dedicated to the literature of the dark and the fantastic), I've already begun working on format, have lots of neat-o recording and production equipment and software, and am pretty much all set to go.
What I don't have is a title for the show.
That's where you come in. What do you think is a good title?
Keep a few things in mind:
So, here's how this will work:
Starting immediately for my newsgroup members, I will start taking your suggested titles at: gary@garybraunbeck.com
June 1st Edit: You can send up to six suggestions, but they must arrive in a single email. If you sent fewer suggestions in your first email before June 1, and have others, you can send the rest in another email (but no more than 6 total).
Please put PODCAST TITLE CONTEST in the subject line. The contest will close July 7, 2007; I will announce the winner shortly thereafter. My goal is to have the first official podcast go live in mid-July.
The address from which you send your entry must be on the list of Gary's newsletter subscribers to be eligible; so, if you want to participate, please subscribe to his newsletter first.
The jury will consist of me and Lucy, my wife.
What will you receive as a prize?
The immediate prizes and slightly-delayed prizes will include autographed and personalized copies of:
You will also, of course, receive public credit on the first podcast for naming the show.
The five books in this prize are worth at least $200.
Please feel free to repost or link to this contest announcement.

Keep a few things in mind:
- I don't want something that is focused primarily on horror -- I write all over the road, and there are many members of the horror community who don't think my work isn't "really" horror -- at least, not as it's viewed in the popular lexicon, so nothing with words like Grave, Horror, Terror, Ooga-Booga, Boo, Gotcha, Creepy, Crawly, Blood...you get the idea. The content of the program is going to be varied--even (gulp!) quirky--and I want the title to reflect that.
- If you are an avid-ish reader of my work and are familiar with the themes I deal with and my style, then you've got a head start on coming up with something.
- "What Is This S**t, Anyway?" has already been considered and set aside, though it's not out of the running.
