Installing Linux on a Dead Badger has made the long list of of nominees for the British Fantasy Society Awards 2008.
As one of the Brothers Strong would say ... holy crap!
Wow.
Anyhow, if anyone reading this is a member of the British Fantasy Society and you haven't had a chance to read the collection, please let me know and I can get an electronic or real copy to you, as you prefer.

I check, every so often, to see if Amazon ever bundles Installing Linux on a Dead Badger with another book. Would they respond to the horror readers' purchasing habits and stack my book with a Brian Keene novel? Would they respond to the geek comic crowd and make ILDB a two-fer with User Friendly?
Nope. My book's getting all cozy with Futurama, at least today.

"The humor in this collection is understated and the theme progression is perfectly paced. It's rare to find a writer who can combine social commentary, popular culture, and science fiction without cheapening the laughs, but this author's balanced the act to perfection. With smart, well crafted writing, and humor to tickle readers of varying tastes and genre preference, Lucy A. Snyder could be one of the funniest new writers on the planet."

Dread Central reviewer Scott A. Johnson gives ILDB five stars* in the review they posted last night.
* Okay, not 5 stars. 5 butcher knives. Same idea, I think.

I found out a little while ago that my collection Sparks and Shadows has been nominated for a Black Quill Award. Cool.

This morning, Hero Sandwich (the comics section of LubbockOnline) put up a review of Installing Linux on a Dead Badger:
Verdict: Thumbs up. If you like your fiction with healthy doses of humor, horror, and computer in-jokes, this is definitely something you're going to enjoy. (read more)
Zombie Fest last weekend was a lot of fun. It was great getting to hang out with Mike Arnzen, Greg Lamberson, Scott A. Johnson and his wife Tabby. About a dozen people picked up copies of Installing Linux on a Dead Badger, and so far the reader reviews seem pretty positive.

Amazon.com has knocked 20% off the cover price of my new book so it's now $8.76, but they ding you $4 for domestic shipping. So, unless you were already going to get another $17 worth of stuff from them to make free shipping, it's still cheapest to get the book directly from the publisher if you're in the U.S. Also, buying direct does more to support the fine folks at CGP :)
On a related note, I was amused that for about 6 hours last night, if you did an Amazon search on "installing linux" mine was the first book that popped up.

The folks at FearZone just posted an interview with me conducted by Gary Frank.
A cool thing happened this week ... the producers of the German-language podcast Podgeschichten approached me out of the blue and bought rights to adapt "Your Corporate Network and the Forces of Darkness". I'm geeked on general principle, of course, but also because English-language humor often doesn't translate well into German, and these guys think it'll do just fine. I'll post when it's up.
Context this weekend went very well despite some major personal disasters suffered by members of the con committee and some of the guests. I got to catch up with a lot of people -- didn't get to spend as much time with several folks as I'd hoped -- but it was a lot of fun. I'm pretty tired today, and will post a more in-depth convention report later.
In the meantime, my short humor story "In the Shadow of the Fryolator" is up at The Town Drunk. A somewhat longer version of the story is in my collection Installing Linux on a Dead Badger, which should be shipping in a couple of weeks.
